What you’ll revise

Class 9 Science: Motion, Force and Laws of Motion

  1. Lap 1 · Speed and velocity

    • Speed = distance ÷ time. Its SI unit is metres per second (m/s).
    • Velocity is speed in a given direction, so it is a vector quantity.
    • Displacement is the shortest distance from start to finish, and it can be zero.
  2. Lap 2 · Acceleration

    • Acceleration = change in velocity ÷ time taken, measured in m/s².
    • The equations of motion include v = u + at and s = ut + ½at².
    • Slowing down is negative acceleration, also called retardation.
  3. Lap 3 · Newton’s laws

    • First law: an object keeps still or keeps moving unless a force acts on it. This tendency is inertia.
    • Second law: force = mass × acceleration (F = ma). 1 N = 1 kg × 1 m/s².
    • Third law: every action has an equal and opposite reaction, acting on a different object.

Students build games like this. In the Beginner cohort, each student turns a chapter of their own syllabus into a game, then revises with it for 10 minutes a day.
