The lines to know

Latitudes run east to west; longitudes (meridians) run from pole to pole.

The Equator

Divides the Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

The Tropic of Cancer

Passes through the middle of India.

The Tropic of Capricorn

The Torrid Zone, the hottest, lies between the two tropics.

The Prime Meridian

Passes through Greenwich, in London. Meridians are counted east and west of it.

The North and South Poles
